PERUGIA
Perugia dominates Tiber valley from an irregular hill: territory has a peculiar conformation; this is why different urban settlements have been created. Perugia is a very rich town from a cultural and artistic point of view. Nature is beautiful. It is a modern and cosmopolite town thanks to its events that are famous all over the world (Eurochocolate, Umbria Jazz for example) and its University for Foreigners. Perugia is very proud of its story and its monuments; it "likes" being visited and admired in its most hidden corners in which past and present mix creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Perugia has two city walls: the outside walls, built during Middle Ages, are still intact for some km and still preserves some Middle Ages portals, such as Cassero di Porta S. Angelo.
Inside the town there are Etrurian walls, made with very big stones. There are only some remains of the ancient town and the style of Perugia is mainly of Middle Ages. A famous Italian poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio, dedicated some of his most beautiful verses to Perugia: “Maschia Peroscia, il tuo grifon che rampa in cor m’entrò col rostro e con l’artiglio, onde tutto il mio sangue acro e vermiglio delle immortali tue vendette avvampa…”. In these verses he described his great passion for this town.
