TRIESTE, THE TOWN OF THE BORA
Trieste is near Slovenia, and it is on Adriatic Sea. It is a Central European, multiethnic town, rich of traditions and cultural elements of different peoples and different religions thanks to its strategic position “on the borders” between Italy and Slovenia and its history. Almost each religious belief has its own "temple".
The landscape is variegated; the gulf is really charming; the hills of Carso surround it.
The architectural structure of the town looks like that of Vienna. In the ancient part there are also Roman influences in the palaces and in the monuments that, however, show different styles.
Mary Theresa of Austria donated a great change to Trieste, thanks to the drainage of the salt marshes and the demolition of the Middle Ages walls. Trieste became one of the most important ports of Europe. The heart of the town then was the plain around the port used by sail boats (Canal Grande). These new districts were called Borgo Teresiano.
Nowadays Trieste is a town in which nature, tourism, night life, history and culture mix. Trieste is the perfect place to deepen the relationships with the others: the best place to meet one's own friends is the "café".
