ECONOMY

In Turin there was a great tasteful invention, that of Gianduja chocolate (that takes its name from the local mask Gianduja) made of cacao, sugar and hazelnuts. The most famous chocolate is Gianduiotto. An old vernacular song describes Turin as the town of candies, in effect in Turin there are many famous confectionary factories. The most famous candy of the world, called Lecca-Lecca (lollipop) was created here: it is a flat round really tasteful candy. In Turin there are more than 400 patisserie laboratories: cakes are really famous, for example Bignola (cream puffs) and the typical cake, Giandujada, a cake made of hazelnuts and almonds with Giandujotto cream and coated with hazelnuts and chocolate. There are many other tasteful and famous products, such as "torrone", egg-flip, "panettone" made with hazelnuts and almonds, biscuits made in Novara, Amaretti biscuits, and the marrons glacés.

During Risorgimento Turin was the capital of the Reign of Italy, from 1861 to 1864. After the Second World War, Turin became the symbol of economic growth of Italy and many people emigrated there from Southern and Central Italy. Turin is also the town of Fiat, the automotive industry founded by Agnelli family in 1899 and famous all over the world.
