Tourism is the most important resource thanks to Scala natural reserve "Valle delle Ferriere", an example of exceptional beauty with an uncontaminated nature and very rare plants, such as Woodwardia radicans. In the woods there are different kinds of chestnuts and marrons whose meal was a very important resource in the past. Today the most important products made thanks to these elements are jams and cakes. Chestnuts kept in water or pumice are very tasteful when roasted or simply boiled.

Citruses and vineyards are a really rich resource together with aubergines, potatoes and other vegetables. The lands are cultivated with the terracing system that creates a unique landscape. There are different kinds of vineyards: "per ‘e palammo", "aglianico"; the wine has recently obtained the Controlled Denomination of Origin.

"Limoncello" represents another important resource, together with other liqueurs made from mulberries, herbs and many kinds of fruit. Wood is a very important resource, too. Scala inhabitants have always provided the wood for the Repubblica Amalfitana: this wood was used to build very strong ships, first used for war, then for commerce. Wood was used to create objects and tools for the house, too. Handicraft was in effect very important and it is nowadays, too.
