SAPRI, THE TOWN OF THE GLEANER
Sapri is at the border between Campania and Basilicata; it is surrounded by beautiful hills covered by woods sloping down towards the sea, in a protected creek of Policastro Gulf.
It was a Blue Flag in 1995, 1997 and from 2000 to 2005.
One of the most famous episodes of Italian Risorgimento was that of Sapri expedition, led by Carlo Pisacane, celebrated in the lines of "Spigolatrice di Sapri" by Luigi Mercantini.
The seaside is wonderful. The tower of the meteorological observatory is very interesting: it is in neo-Middle Ages style and it is decorated with ceramics portraying the most important men of sciences.
"Memoria collettiva" (Collective remembrance) Festival is very interesting, too.
