Monuments and natural beauties

Museo del Mare e della Costa: this museum is dedicated to the sea and the coast. It is made of three rooms that allow visitors to deepen their knowledge about the sea world and nature. The first room is dedicated to marine biology and it contains malacologic collections with items found on the seabed, all over the world. The second room is dedicated to the local coast in the Quaternary period, a period of important changes. The room contains the findings about local fauna, for example teeth of bears, etc. There is also a section dedicated to maritime archaeology, there are the remains of ancient ships, anchors, pots, etc. The third room is dedicated to the findings discovered on a Roman ship that shipwrecked in front of Sabaudia coast. There is also an aquarium with the typical local fauna and flora.

Biblioteca "Feliciano Iannella": this library is a very important source of information about the story of Sabaudia: its foundation, the drainage, historical buildings, etc.

Museo Emilio Greco: this museum was inaugurated in 1984 and it is in the town hall. It is dedicated to the contemporary artist Emilio Greco.

Casa dell’Associazione Combattenti: a building dedicated to those who fought during the world wars.

Palazzo Comunale: the town hall has a very interesting portal decorated by a sculpture portraying victory, by F. Nagni and A. Vecchi.

Torre Civica: this tower is 42 m tall and it is completely covered by travertine.

Palazzo delle Poste di Mazzoni: this palace is decorated with the colours of Savoia family (blue tiles and red bricks). Scholars from all over the world study the building.

Parco Nazionale del Circeo: this national park is one of the places tourists love most in this region. It was settled to protect the area called "Selva di Terracina" menaced by the drainage. The park is very interesting and more than 25 species of birds live here thanks to the geographic position and the mild climate. There are also rare species, such as peregrine hawk and fish hawk, eagles, etc. The forest takes its name from the famous Enchantress Circe. Inside the park, there are many different kinds of flowers and plants: Mediterranean bush, ilexes, palms, etc. The "king" of the forest is the wild boar: it is also the symbol of the park. There are also many foxes. In the caves of the promontory, there are important prehistoric sites: the skull of Neanderthal man was found here, together with other items and records. Archaeological remains are of Roman age.

Baia d’Argento: a very famous creek.

Fonti di Lucullo (Bagnara): fountains in Molella area; they are in a Roman cave. Waters are used to heal digestive problems and illnesses of urinary system.

Grotta Guattari: this cave contained the skull of a man of Neanderthal age.

Villa di Domiziano: this villa was built during I century b.C. The presence of this villa shows the fact that this area was the favourite holiday resort of Roman noble families. Then it was abandoned and it became a marsh. In the portico, there are still the remains of a wonderful mosaics floor. There are also the thermal baths with rectangular basins. The pipes used for the waters are still visible. Inside the wood there are big cisterns. Emperor arrived to the villa from the sea and he used special slides not to wet "his precious feet".

Chiesa dell’Annunziata: inside the church, there is a chapel, Cappella Reale, donated by Queen Margherita di Savoia to Sabaudia in 1930s. It was originally in Palazzo Margherita in Rome.

Chiesa di Santa Maria della Sorresca: this church is on the banks of Sabaudia lake. It was built in XII century even if it had been previously founded in VI century a. C.

Torri: there are six towers on the territory and they were built to defend the area. Only one tower (Torre Paola) preserves the original features, the others have been restored. Pope Pius IV (1559-1565) ordered the towers: thanks to him four towers were built (Paola, Fico, Cervia and Moresca). Torre Vittoria was built in the third decade of XVII century; almost at the same time, the ancient Torre Olevola was demolished and a new tower was built: it was bigger and stronger.
