FOLKLORE AND EVENTS

• The beautiful event of "La Notte Bianca" starts from Campidoglio: it is a wonderful event that has already become a cultural phenomenon spread all over Italy. Streets, monuments, villas, museums, churches, theatres, shops: they are all involved in this special night, in which people meet in a shared exiting atmosphere.
• Mercato Porta Portese: every Sunday morning in Porta Portese there is a very rich market in which many different objects and items are sold, some of them are very strange; inhabitants and tourists do love it.
• Epifania: in beautiful Piazza Navona there is every year a traditional market during Christmas period. Decorations, items for cribs are sold. On 6th January this market reaches its climax and the whole city (and many tourists) visits it.
• Processione del perdono: during Lent there is a touching procession dedicated to forgiveness.
• Via Crucis: on Good Friday, in the Coliseum, the Pope performs the Way of the Cross. The shrines for it were introduced in 1719 by Pope Benedict XIV.
• Natale di Roma: every year, on 21st April, the city celebrates its own "birthday".
