"Prima fra tutte le città, casa degli dei, è l’aurea Roma": Latin poet Ausonio wrote these words underlying the importance of Rome, considered a golden town and the house of Gods. Visitors arriving in Rome already have knowledge, pictures and tales about this city in their mind; they can already list the most important monuments and the main characters that were the protagonists of the history of this wonderful city. This is why Rome is so attractive: Rome seems to invite each visitor to be an integral part of its world and of its long history. Rome is a magical place because it makes people feel part of history, part of something important, universal, something that existed in the past, still does and will always do… The magic of Rome provides a unique occasion to spend some days in a fascinating and stimulating environment.

Rome is the place where politics, religion, cinema, glorious remains and charming memories coexist. The sky with its wonderful always changing colours is over the domes and the ancient remains of this city that continue to attract thousand of visitors. A walk along the Tiber allows the revival of the history of Rome: the most important places of the city, from Ara Pacis to Castel S. Angelo, are situated along the river. Visitors can’t lose the sunset over Isola Tiberina, one of those wonderful sunset described by Stendhal. Rome is twice a capital: a political and a religious one. Rome was the centre of the empire, of the monarchy, of the republic and of papacy thanks to the presence of Vatican State.

Romans have always loved eating well (Apicio, who lived in the I century a.C. left a lot of cooking receipts) and today Roman dishes are considered Italian dishes: spaghetti all’amatriciana, tonnarelli alla chitarra (a kind of pasta), abbacchio alla cacciatora or a scottadito (spring lamb, cacciatore or served hot from the grille), coratella con carciofi (offal with artichokes), fagioli con le cotiche (beans with pork rinds).

The beautiful event of "La Notte Bianca" starts from Campidoglio: it is a wonderful event that has already become a cultural phenomenon spread all over Italy. Streets, monuments, villas, museums, churches, theatres, shops: they are all involved in this special night, in which people meet in a shared exciting atmosphere.

There is a Romanesque proverb saying: "Quanno Roma finirà tutt’er monno s’ha dda scapicollà", that is when Rome finishes, the whole world will finish, too
