Folklore and events
- Festa di S. Antonio Abate: on 17th January animals are blessed by the Saint, their Patron.
- Festa di S. Costanzo: there is the traditional procession on 28th January that celebrates the patron of the town. There is a cake dedicated to him, called ‘torcolo’.
- Bentornata Primavera: this spring event is dedicated to handicraft and ancient crafts. Masters work in the street and explain their jobs.
- Mercatino delle Strenne: this market is dedicated to Christmas: decorations, games, various items, cakes.
- Grappitaly: this event is dedicated to grappa and to its various combinations: with chocolate, cigars and cocktails. There is an interesting museum dedicated to distilleries, Museo degli Alambicchi.
- Fiera dei Morti: this Middle Ages fair was already organised in 1260, as a written document testifies. There is a typical cake eaten in this occasion, it is called “Stinchetti”, that is bones of the departed.
- Quattro Ponti: this exhibition is also a market that promotes the typical foods and products of the less famous areas of the town.
- Ditecheese: this event is dedicated to cheese.
- Eurochocolate: this event is dedicated to chocolate and it is the most important international event about it. It takes place in the historical part of the town. There are also meeting, games, and exhibitions.
- Umbria Jazz: this international festival is dedicated to jazz music. It takes place in the ancient part of the town. Performances last all day, from the morning until late at night. The best jazz musicians of the world participate.
- Batik: this festival is about cinema d’essai, not only Italian but also international. It likes presenting directors and films from different, unusual points of view.
- Umbria Libri: this event is dedicated to books; there is an exhibition that is also a market, in which there is the presentation of Umbrian production.
- Perugia Classico: this “classical” event is dedicated to ancient and modern musical instruments; there are also seminars and concerts.
- Cartoombria: this event is dedicated to cartoons, videogames and new media technologies and representatives from all over the world participate.
- Sagra Musicale Umbra: this is the most ancient and famous European event dedicated to sacred music.
- Festival Internazionale delle Figure Animate: this event is dedicated to theatre for teenagers. Many companies from different countries participate.
- Desolata: a Holy Week celebration.
