Palermo is the heart of commercial and business relationship of Sicily with the other regions of Italy, Africa and the countries of Mediterranean area. It is the seat of an important ancient University. Many students of Islamic countries arrive to study here.

The tertiary sector is very well developed. Tourism has increased its importance and its economic role, thanks to artistic heritage, the mild climate. Commerce is developing; the most exported products are citruses.

Foreigners love this town for its natural beauties, its monuments, its climate, its food.

The port is one of the most important of Italy.

Sicily is the third region for the production of olive oil.

The most famous products are ice-creams, and the “cassata”. Ice-creams were brought to France in 1520 by Mr. Casati, the first producer of ice-creams to emigrate, thus making ice-creams famous all over the world.
