Tourism is the most important resource. Many cultural events and activities are organised thanks to tourists and for tourists: also commerce, building trade, facilities have been developing for years thanks to tourism. Maratea offers very good facilities for visitors: hotels, b&bs, campsites, restaurants and inhabitants are very friendly and open.

There are many factories, too, for the production of silk, cotton, leather, wines, and oils.

The most important agricultural products are citruses and vegetables.
