TREMITI ISLES, PEARLS IN THE ADRIATIC SEA
The Tremiti archipelago is made of three isles (San Domino, San Nicola, Capraia) and some rocks (the biggest are Cretaccio and La Vecchia). The isles are 12 maritime miles far from Gargano northern coast. The isles are really wonderful with their natural beauties, their story, and their crystalline sea. Around 360 fishermen and farmers live there. They speak a Parthenopean dialect because they come from Neapolitan people that were deported there in 1843 by King Ferdinand II.
Since 1989 the archipelago has been a natural maritime reserve, divided into three areas (A, full reserve; B, general reserve; C, partial reserve). The coast is tall and rocky, made of calcareous material, and has several caves. 22 km far from the coast there is the isle of Pianosa that is partly covered by water. So there is no vegetation and it is not inhabited.
Nature in uncontaminated, water is crystalline, the seabed is full of colours, and legends about the isles are really interesting: this is why Tremiti are so charming and so loved by tourists.
