MONUMENTS AND NATURAL BEAUTIES
- Santissima Trinità Abbey, a national monument. It is on the left side of Selano stream and was founded in 1011. The façade was restructured in the second half of ‘700 and the Chorus, the Dome and the Crosspiece were frescoed by Vincenzo Morani in 1800. The sacristy has a fine Renaissance portal. The Romanic cloister is actually charming with its "Arabic" style. The Longobard graveyard is very charming, too. It is under the basilica and the small cloister, monks and noblemen were buried there. There are still traces of the frescoes by Andrea Sabatini. San Alferio cave, the core of the monastery, keep the relics of the Saint and traces of wall frescoes made in XIV century. The museum, a great room of XIII century, keeps wonderful works of art (precious sculptures and paintings, jewels, archaeological finds). But the real treasure of the Abbey is the Library that is made of more than 50.000 books and some precious XVI century editions. The Archive keeps more than 15.000 parchments of VIII century, some illuminated codes, such as Codex Diplomaticus Cavensis, that includes all the documents between 792 and 1065; there is also a Visigoth Bible of IX century, written and illuminated in Oviedo, De Temporibus by Beda il Venerabile, of XI century and the Lex Longobardorum del Mille, of IX century, too (the archive is open only to scholars). There is, finally, an excellent school for the restoration of ancient books
