CAVA DE’ TIRRENI, LIKE A SMALL SWISS TOWN
Cava is an elegant town with more than 50.000 inhabitants that live in the town and in the surrounding villages. Cava is a very active town, with a very good climate which makes it a nice summer residence.
This town is a link between Agro Nocerino-Sarnese and the Amalfitana coast. It is 198 m above the sea-level, surrounded by Picentini Mountains (East) and Lattari Mountains (West). The highest mountain is Finestra Mount (1139 m), with the typical "window" that separates Cava from Amalfitana coast.
The most beautiful monument is SS. Trinità Abbey, founded in XI century by Sant’Alferio. There is a very rich library that keeps almost all the historical heritage of Southern Campania. There are also many works of art (paintings by Andrea da Salerno, Guarino, De Matteis, ceramics from Campania and Abruzzo, etc.). The ancient part of the town, called Borgo Scacciaventi, is actually charming, with its porticos, the ancient handicraft shops. The most important event is the challenge among trombonists, a historical recalling in ancient costume. Mountain excursions are interesting, too.
