Tomatoes canning is the main activity (the most important tomato, the San Marzano, got the Dop mark, denomination of protected origin), together with tanneries and food industries. There are also many mechanical and engineering factories that produce the containers used for the canning of tomatoes and vegetables. Other factories produce wood and plastic packing for the shipment of canned products. There are also many transport and shipment agencies.
