HISTORY
Bracigliano has very ancient origins, thanks to the active presence of Phoenicians and Pelasgians, Etrurians and Samnites. The name comes from the Latin "iter branchia montis" o "montium", that is inside the arms of the mountains. In this territory there were many battles, during Samnite and Punic wars.
Under the Longobard prince Arechi the town passed to Nocera county. After a period of crisis caused by barbaric invasions, the town returned to life thanks to Normans.
In 1400 the area started to be ruled by Sanseverino family that then gave the feud to Miroballo, becoming an autonomous signoria. Their rule ended in 1790 when the last exponent of the family (Marchese Cesare Pasquale) died. He didn’t have heirs and the feud became a royal property first and then an independent municipality thanks to Murat’s laws (1806).
