Ascea has a Middle Ages origin, on its territory there is a sulphurous ferruginous water. It is situated on a hill from which there is a wonderful panorama on the coast and on the ruins of the ancient Velia. It’s a real pearl in Cilentana Coast where nature, sea, story, culture and art perfectly mix. This town is really charming and attracts tourists for its beauty.

The beach is really wonderful, it is 5 km long and 70 m large and the sand is really soft.

On the top of the cliff there is a tower, Torre del Telegrafo; the cliff is made of creeks, rocks and beaches in front of a wonderful transparent water. Two beautiful beaches, Baia d’Argento and Baia della Rondinella are attainable only by boat.

The seaside of Ascea is really wonderful, there are interesting archaeological sites, the ruins of the ancient Greek colony, Elea, founded by Focesi in 540 b.C. It was the seat of the most famous pre-Socratic school being this territory the birthplace of Parmenide, the great philosopher.

It is a very ancient town, maybe it was a fortified village during Enotri age, Enotri came from Peloponnesus.

Madonna del Carmine sanctuary is very interesting, on the road to the sanctuary there are many icons that portray the different episodes of Christ's Passion.

During the summer there are charming theatre performances in the archaeological site and in Parmenide theatre.

Tourism is very well developed, especially in Marina di Ascea.

Tourists are attracted by the beauty of the sea, by archaeological sites, and the nice accommodation facilities. The climate is mild, the landscapes are beautiful, inhabitants are friendly, food and typical products are delicious.

Another important resource is agriculture, the main products are chestnuts and olive oil.

Handicraft is very well developed in the field of building industry.
