SCALA
Scala is a mountain centre at the feet of Lattari mountains: it looks towards Valle del Dragone at 360 m above the sea-level. It is the most ancient town of Amalfitana Coast. It is a small but nice town surrounded by chestnut groves and small oak woods, near Ravello.
Scala is a mix of hill and mountain landscapes; its typical staircases lead to lemon-orchards and valleys that have all the charm of an uncontaminated nature, rich of rare plants, for example Woodwardia radicans in Valle delle Ferriere. On the mountains several hawks fly. This territory is exceptionally beautiful with its colours and lights. The vegetation is rich, in some areas it recalls a tropical landscape, in other ones it is the typical Mediterranean bush. The valley is set among rock-faces, partly covered by a rich vegetation (chestnut groves) and partly by the Mediterranean bush. The valley is crossed by Canneto stream that allows the growth of several kinds of fern, for example the rare Woodwardia radicans, that comes from the Tertiary.
In this territory there are several mountains: Cervigliano (1203 m), Mustaculo (800 m), Rotondo (1023 m) with chestnut and mixed groves. During the walks, tourists can visit monuments, churches, castles, towers and give a look to terraces, fountains, the system of channels to irrigate the lemon-orchards. From Scala very nice walks lead to Santa Caterina, Campoleone, Campidoglio, Minuto and Pontone, the small hamlets constituting the municipality.
The visitor of this ancient and noble town, rich of art and culture, or the trekking – lovers can admire wonderful and atypical landscapes. The most charming walk is that in the area called Punta d’Aglio where the sight of the far sea and of the near mountains creates a unique atmosphere.
