Romans chose Sirmione for their holidays and they made a great choice, since Sirmione is still today loved by tourists from all over the world. A long and narrow peninsula of four km enters Lake Garda like a dagger. The end of this peninsula is covered by a wide park that includes the remains of a great Roman villa that probably belonged to Latin poet Catullo and a small museum that contains the remains and the objects found in the archaeological sites of the territory.
The tourists spending their holidays in this territory can enjoy many activities: they can walk along the banks of the lake; they can practise water sports; they can have their shopping in the many shops of the town; they can enjoy the great local gastronomy in bars and restaurants. Sirmione also has famous thermal baths with sulphurous water that is very useful to heal dermal problems; gynaecological illnesses; and many other diseases.
The ancient castle is picturesque and was built by Scaligeri family. It is well preserved and it is surrounded by the waters of the lake. The charm of the castle during the night is great.
